The first semi final of ICC world championship trophy 2009 was played between England and Australia. It was expected to be a highly contested match, but the match ended with a one sided result. The match seemed to reflect the result of the recently held Natwest series. Australia, who totally failed in the last two ICC tournaments, have displayed their ultimate power in that semi final. They have beaten their old foes by nine wickets.

Tracing the challenge of 258 runs is 50 over, Aussie players played it like a charm. They finished the game with 8 over remaining and 9 wickets in hand. Shane Watson, who started this tournament with some bad experiences, has knocked a timely century. This made him the man of the match.

The wicket was completely batting oriented, freshly laid one. Andrew Strauss won the important toss and presumably chose to bat. However, English batsmen were not perfect for their duty. On the other side, Ausi bowlers were doing their duty perfectly by picking up regular wickets. At one stage, English score was 101/6. Bresnan and Luke Wright rescued the English side and brought a prestigious score.

In the Australian innings, after losing Paine’s wicket in the early 2nd over, Aussie skipper and Watson were determined to not to give any more scope to the English bowlers. They brought a smooth 9-wicket victory for Australia.
